Freshen up your home with some interior inspiration from IKEA

If you are looking for some interior design inspiration to freshen up your home, our friends at IKEA have some great ideas!

More often than not, interior design trends are influenced by what is happening in the world around us, and now more than ever, people seem to want enjoy the stillness of their homes.

According to Clotilde Passalacqua, Interior Design Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland: “People globally are finding comfort in their homes and are opting to spend more time under their own roofs to unwind, relax and rest.”

Perhaps this desire for comfort is why the retro trend is still going strong; causing us to reflect on times of calmness and serenity.

This trend is all about the darker wooden materials, wood veneers and sandy tints mixed with bright colours such as orange, yellow and pink.

One simple way to adapt to this trend, is to update your home with a few cushions, some new curtains and/or rugs in the right colours.

Expressing ourselves through our interiors is incredibly important, as when our identity is mirrored in our decor, it really helps to create a sense of home and belonging. Colour is incredibly emotive, and we can have deeply rooted associations with certain tones.

For a more moderate touch, you might want to bring smaller additions into your home, such as this colourful tray VÅRSIKLÖJA, or a coloured vase for those cut flowers, which you are drawn to purchase on your way home.

If you choose to put your flowers in one of the beautifully rounded KONSTFULL vases from designer Ilse Crawford, you’ll be embracing yet another trend. IKEA talks about the trend of “wavy shapes”, meaning the organic, soft and rounded contours, originating from sea waves.

These rounded shapes, and the talk of bright colours, prompts us to the newly released IKEA collection VARMBLIXT, created together with the Dutch-New Zealand acclaimed designer Sabine Marcelis. She loves to play with light and colours in her creations.

“I’m fascinated by light. I love that it’s ever-changing and that it can activate objects, bringing a dynamic quality to static things.” says designer Sabine Marcelis.

VARMBLIXT incorporates everything from table lamps, wall lamps and serving bowls in playful, doughnut shapes, to coffee tables, rugs and elegantly shaped carafes and glasses.

Colours all around

Another of IKEA's themes is all about bringing vibrancy to life with clashing colours such as reds, pinks and oranges. IKEA believes these evoke 'memories of the bold era of 70s style' and inject ‘a fresh lease of life into your space'.

You can achieve this look with the help of for example the SVARTKLINT bedlinen the BUSENKEL rug and SVARTPOPPEL cushion cover.

Glorious green

According to the 2022 IKEA Life at Home Report, more people agree that accessing green space is important for maintaining their mental wellbeing. Meanwhile, others said that green helps to evoke a sense of calm. This can be achieved within your home through the introduction of more plants to create a natural oasis.

People have increasingly felt the desire to bring nature into their homes. Whether breathing new life into a corner with a leafy houseplant or adding a succulent to a side table, nature helps to add visual calmness to a room and support a relaxed life at home.

When you create this natural oasis, elevate it by using a plant stand such as SATSUMAS in wood or even TOLKNING in rattan materials. This will bring a natural and warmer touch to your display.
